still getting comments

I am using the Church Theme and have constructed an informational site. Things seem to be running smoothly but I am not interested in comments on the site, and therefore have checked none of the “comments” boxes in page “settings options.” I am however still amassing comments in the spam catcher. How is that possible to leave comments so that they are being caught, when I have not areas for comments?
Han, I have read your advice to others using Omega, but in the Settings>discussion menu there is not a “disable comments” check box anywhere. How can I completely eliminate any comments, spam or otherwise? Thanks.

In the Settings>discussion, you’ll see this option: “Allow people to post comments on new articles (These settings may be overridden for individual articles.)” If this box is not checked, all future post comment will be disabled.
To change the comment settings for a post or page you already published, first locate the post/page you want to edit on the Posts or Pages page, then, locate the Discussion module on the edit screen, and either check or uncheck the options it offers.
To reduce spam comment, you can use akismet plugin, or cookies for comments.

The only area of comments that are checked in all the discussion settings are “Comment author must fill out name and e-mail” and “Comment must be manually approved.” The comments are coming into the Askiment plugin area as spam but I was just curious how folks are commenting when there is no place visible to comment to. I have just been keeping tabs on them and then deleting permanently, but was just curious how they are even getting posted. Should I uncheck those too boxes also? Thanks Han!
