Form elements in child theme

I’m liking the Church theme, but it does not display the drop down “select” forms properly, especially in Safari and Chrome. I mean like this:

You just see the top item in the list “Volvo” against a grey box. Nothing happens when you roll over it. It does not look or behave like a drop-down list at all and it is not really in style with the theme. The Search box doesn’t look great either.

Is there anything that can be done to improve this? I use a lot of these forms.
